Istvan Rozsnyai, the founder of Rozsnyai Collection was born in Nagykaroly, Romania in 1976. His family moved to Hungary in 1984, where following in his mother’s footsteps he attended the pharmaceutical university of Szeged.
He developed his passion for ceramics through his early years at high school and bought his first jug in 1993 from the painter, Joseph Petkes. His paternal grandmother who, encouraged by Karoly Kós, began collecting folk art in her hometown and nearby area, Kalotaszeg further fuelled his interest.
Rozsnyai inherited these items, and soon turned them into a nationally recognized unique assembly. Later he extended his attention to ceramics from the Carpathian Basin and by today he owns probably the biggest private ceramics collection in Hungary.
